Moonlight & Magnolias (Feb. 2010)

Written by
Ron Hutchinson
Directed by
Sue Jennings

It’s 1939 and Hollywood producer David Selznick has fired the director of Gone With The Wind. To create a new screenplay, he pulls director Victor Fleming off the set of The Wizard of Oz and calls in a dubious script doctor, Ben Hecht, who has not read the novel. Locked in Selznick’s office for 5 days - sustained by nothing but peanuts and bananas - a reluctant Hecht types the script as the producer and director hilariously act out each scene of the soon-to-be classic movie.

Produced by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.

Cast and Crew

Tom Bolton
Tom Bolton
Character: Hecht
Tom finds it a pure joy to be on the stage at the Elmira Theatre Company. This is his third show at ETC. He wants to thank Sue for casting him in this challenging piece and giving him the opportunity to rub shoulders with three of the best. Mucho appreciation to his wife and family for enduring his theatre passion. Enjoy the show!
Gord Cameron
Gord Cameron
Character: Fleming
This marks the 6th ETC production Gord has been in since the opening of the new theatre. Prior to “Second Time Around” last fall, Gord enjoyed roles in “Office Hours”, “Ten Times Two”, “The Odd Couple”, and the “Foursome”. “Rumors”, “The Silver Dagger”, “The Man Who Came To Dinner”, and “Dear Ruth” are some of the productions he’s been in since his first role in “The Gazebo”. Other productions such as “Art”, “The Weir”, “Harry & Sam Dialogues”, “Christmas Carol”, “Ethan Claymore”, and “Strangers Among Us” with other companies in Galt, Guelph and St. Jacobs have kept him busy. Special mention and thanks to my daughter Jocelyn.
Brian Otto
Brian Otto
Character: Selznick
As a professional actor, Brian has appeared on stages throughout Ontario. More recently he has worked with area community groups as an actor and set-builder. He has appeared with most of the community groups in the region, including Guelph Little Theatre, Royal City Musical Productions and KW Musical Productions. He is currently working on co-producing and directing a concert version of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro with the Guelph Symphony, and rehearsing the role of Leonato for an April production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing at Guelph Little Theatre. He sleeps once a week, at least.
Sue Parr
Sue Parr
Character: Miss Popengaul
As always, Susan is thrilled to be on stage in Elmira. The past 12 years have seen her onstage in many roles, most recently as Vicki, in From Here to Insanity last February. Off stage she has taken on many tasks including ASM, front of house, costumes & props. Susan would like to thank her family, friends & extended theatre family for their unrivaled support of all she does, but especially in her battle against breast cancer this summer. Her goal was to be well enough to be on stage in M&M. Who knew the light at the end of the tunnel would be a stage light!
Sue Jennings
Sue Jennings
Director
Once again, Susan is thrilled to be directing for the Elmira Theatre Company. Previous productions include last season’s Office Hours and 2006’s The Foursome; the play that opened our lovely new theatre. Last season, Susan had the opportunity to work with Galt Little Theatre and directed the award-winning December 2008 production of Ethan Claymore. While directing is Susan’s favourite theatrical “job” she has been known to dress a set or two, set up a front of house display and once in a while even appears onstage! Many thanks to her boys at home who indulge her passion and need to “play”!
Bev Dietrich
Bev Dietrich
Stage Manager
Bev has been involved with ETC for many years both behind the scenes and onstage. When onstage Bev prefers the musicals where there is “safety in numbers” unless it’s an opportunity to travel to a far off destination like Scotland, then she’ll bite the bullet and become a real actor. However Bev’s first love is stage managing and has enjoyed working with the cast and crew of M & M, not to be confused with the candy M & M’s. She likes those too! During the day Bev is curator of Guelph Museums and at night lives with her husband Paul here in Elmira (when she’s not at the theatre).
Rosemarie Hoy
Rosemarie Hoy
Assistant Stage Manager
Rosemarie is excited to be participating in her 19th year with Elmira Theatre Company, and particularly with this show. Thanks Sue and Bev for the opportunity to rekindle the long dormant Gone with the Wind mania within. Rosemarie began with ETC as assistant stage manager for Bev and after years of learning nearly every aspect of the theatre production, has returned once more to her favourite character - the ASM. Rosemarie lives in Kitchener with her ETC actor husband Patrick, and 13-year old son Michael who also loves the stage.
Ruth Connor
Ruth Connor
Producer
Ruth is still a relative newcomer to Elmira, but has been loving every minute of her involvement with the theatre. She acted in “Office Hours” in 2009. Prior to this she was very involved and continues to support Guelph Little Theatre, having acted in a number of plays, the most recent being “A Curious Savage”, and performed various duties behind the scenes. Ruth is delighted to be a part of this wonderful production. Thanks to Sue and Bev for ‘encouraging’ her to produce, to the wonderful cast and crew and especially to her family and friends for their constant support and love.
