About Us

Elmira Theatre Company, as a vibrant community group, exists to promote diverse theatrical opportunities through a commitment to skills development and artistic excellence.

Elmira Theatre Company began in 1981 and since that time has become well known in local theatre circles for its quality productions, especially its comedies. Elmira is located in south-central Ontario and members come from all over the Waterloo Region and nearby towns and cities. New members are always welcome, regardless of ability.

The Elmira Theatre Company is a member of the Western Ontario Drama League (WODL), a body of over twenty community theatre groups encompassing an area from the Bruce Peninsula, south to Lake Erie and west to Sarnia. Each year WODL sponsors a drama festival that is hosted by a different group each year during March break. Over the years Elmira has won numerous awards and been nominated for many more at these festivals. Our proudest moment was winning not only the WODL competition in 1993 but also going on to the next level, the Theatre Ontario competition, and winning that as well with the comedy, Opening Night.

Elmira Theatre Company currently produces 3 shows each season, our first being in November, second in February and the last show in April/May.  We look forward to seeing you at the theatre!

Elmira Theatre Company would be nothing without the hard work of our caring volunteers. At the top of this list is our team of executives that take care of our business operations behind the scenes.

Alice joined ETC in 2010 and was hooked immediately. Over the years she has thoroughly enjoyed working both back stage and on stage, and was last seen on stage as Katrina in Sleepy Hollow. This is Alice's first role in a show other than a musical and she is excited by the challenge and the opportunity to learn from this great cast and crew. Alice hopes that you cannot tell how much time she had to spend learning how to swing a golf club and that you laugh even half as much as everyone did during rehearsals.

New Location!

Elmira Theatre Company has operated out of several venues over our 40+ year history,
and in 2023 we moved to 60 Arthur St. S. Elmira, in the Wyatt St. entrance of St. James Lutheran Church.

We are very excited to introduce you to our new home, in the west end of the historical St. James Lutheran Church, one of the first buildings built in Elmira.  The higher stage and open venue allows us to offer more ground level accessible seating while maintaining excellent sight lines for all our patrons.  It is our hope that all patrons and guests who enter our location feel comfortable and want for nothing. We are fully wheelchair accessible and meet all safety requirements and regulations. We look forward to continuing to adapt and improve the space for our patrons in the years to come.
